Feather in My Cap

After being engaged one week, we have accomplished quite a bit...venue, rehearsal dinner, wedding party, DJ, florist, cocktail hour band, colors, songs for the ceremony, but most notably? I found my dress, which is most certainly a feather in my cap! All that's left is some anituquing for decorations and a photographer. Man, I love planning our wedding!

Bootielicious

Booties are my favorite type of shoe. I've got lace-up suede ones, leather high heel ones, and flat western style ones, so it was only a matter of time before an oxford calf hair variety made it's way into my closet. If you haven't jumped on the bootie bandwagon, head on over to the Lucky Community Bootie Contest to get some ideas on styling from some fellow fashion bloggers.

Oh, Narcisco

I love a designer collaboration, especially at Kohl's. I have at least one item in heavy rotation from each of their featured designers. Now, I can add Narcisco Rodriguez to the list, along with Lauren Conrad, Vera Wang, and Jennifer Lopez. Ya did good, Narcisco! Although a great deal of the items sold out or are only available in certain sizes, these pants, this blouse, and these pants (which will be featured shortly), are still yours to buy! Did you get any gems from his line? What do you think?

Don't forget that I have an exclusive 10% for my readers on their website using code TENBLOG until December 23rd (can be used with other coupons & promotions)!

P.S. These photos were taken pre-engagement - I am still happily engaged!

The Accessory of a Lifetime

We're engaged!

After 12 years of friendship and nine months of dating, I am happy to announce that JRebeccaStyle will be sporting a new accessory...forever and for always. My boyfriend, Dan, proposed over the weekend and I am beyond elated to be Mrs. Jenny Opels on November 9, 2013!

The More the Merrier

Layers, layers, layers. This time of year, I try to stay away from wearing a winter coat (unless its the best option with my ensemble). Therefore, I often rely on layers to keep me toasty in the Windy City. A tee, sweater, and a snood? Thigh high socks over tights? The more the merrier as far as I'm concerned.

Shine Bright Like A Diamond

Despite the fact that the song, "Diamonds" by Rihanna is most certainly about love at first sight, I take the chorus as more as a personal challenge, especially in the face of un-shineworthy moments. I was particularly proud of my outfit this day...the high & low mix of wool with sequins and the edginess of a backwards cardigan all paired with ladylike pearls and t-straps. However, upon leaving my apartment, I took a tumble going down the stairs, which left me with a rip in my beloved shoes and a rolled ankle (currently icing & elevating). Thankfully, I have an awesome shoe guy and a job where I can put my (seemingly) world ending catastrophes in perspective and provide resources and empathy to those who need it. I might not always be perfectly shiny, in spite of my best efforts, but I do make a difference.

Knee Highs

When the temperature went up to 60 this weekend, tights were too much, but the world didn't need to see the pastiness that is my legs during this time of year. Thank goodness for knee high socks...and lazy Sundays.

Dressing the Turkey (What to Wear for the Holidays)

It's that time of year where your local radio station will start their 24/7 Christmas music and the shops will be bonkers from open until close. I absolutely love this time of year, but there's something to be said for being prepared in advance so that the shopping that you're doing is out of joy, rather than necessity. Even though I have no idea what I'm buying for who & when, I have thought a great deal about what I will be wearing for what & when. The combinations I've thought of will take you from the corporate holiday party to the family Christmas Eve dinner and from shopping downtown to NYE. My ideas for dressing for the holidays this year are all about unexpected textures and combinations while keeping in mind comfort and versatility. Check 'em out!

1. Maxi and a cropped top :: bonus points for topping it off with a blazer on NYE

2. Thigh high socks and an A-line skirt :: bonus points when wearing Hunters for shopping

3. Pastels and camel :: bonus points for donning a beige snood en route to Christmas Eve dinner

4. Sequins and khakis :: bonus points for a vintage brown belt at the corporate holiday party

5. Plaid shirt and brocade :: bonus points for rocking a bright lipstick on NYE

6. Leather skirt and tucked in sweatshirt :: bonus points for wearing your favorite sports team at Christmas Eve dinner

7. Oversized fisherman sweater and lace :: bonus points for an beaded clutch at the corporate holiday party

8. Winter white and fur :: bonus points for mirrored aviators on a day of shopping (followed by cocktails)
