From Where I Sat & Stood

As you have noticed, I've been slacking on the outfit posts. I promise I'm still getting out of bed and dressed every day, but I've been much more focused on other things, like physical therapy for my ankle, surviving the Chi-beria winter, training Walter, and recovering from our wedding and the holidays. Plus, we leave the house and return from work in the dark, so there's no light for outdoor/optimal picture taking - talk about feeling the winter blues!
I've still been posting to Instagram and here's what's been caught on my iPhone:

That Dress

I now have that dress.
That dress that I will turn to in times of stress, happiness, or low inspiration. That dress that I can style countless ways and will always feel put together. I have three outfits to show you this week that make this gem appropriate for date night, weekend errands, and a girl's night out.
First of all, we have the classic way for date night, amped up with some of my favorite accessories - a couple statement necklaces, pastel clutch, and leopard strappy sandals.

Beautiful Ruins

Although I haven't started it (need to finish Inferno first), Beautiful Ruins partly takes place on the Italian coast of the Liguarian Sea in 1962. Taking inspiration from a young Sophia Loren and the Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2013 collection, I dressed as if I could be walking along that same shore line at sunset with my love's hand in mine.

How to Pick the Right Necklace

When it comes to jewelry, I consider myself an aficionado and I have a rather full jewelry armoire to prove it. Although other accessories are definitely not unchartered territory, I feel the most confident when my neck, arms, fingers, or ears are bedazzled. However, the daily decisions of what to wear on each does not come easy. Therefore, I rely on a few guidelines to make sure I'm not overwhelmed and still on time for work every morning. When it comes to necklaces, I'm sure you have rules that you've heard, live by, or think are ridiculous. I request that you open your mind and let your necklace bring together or enhance your outfit rather than just being the "add on" that you think of at the last minute.

1. Use your necklace to cover up space :: If you're buttoning up your collar (like I suggested you do), then you know that your short, chain necklace isn't seen and your long pendant necklace leaves too much space open. Therefore, a multi-strand beaded or chain link necklace hereby makes your chest appear smaller and more narrow.
2. Use your necklace bring together patterns and colors :: Sometimes an outfit lacks cohesiveness despite your best intentions. Before scoffing it as a "bag lady" look, try a necklace of a color you're wearing to bring together the beige and gray, teal and yellow, or leopard and stripes.
3. Use your necklace to match your shoes :: Similarly, a necklace can make enough of a statement to make sense of your shoe choice. If there's no black in your ensemble, a black statement necklace can show the pairing with your black pumps was intentional, rather than just the only pair you had at your desk in the office.
4. Use your necklace to enhance your curves :: When you wear a blousy top, a pendant or long chain necklace can hug your lady lumps and still showcase your figure. Rather than doing the usual and relying on a a belt to outline the waist, this option still allows for the flow of your outfit to be center stage.

Sunshine Day

Today, I give you a bright combo to brighten your mood. Actually, who am I kidding? No one in Chicago should need help to get in a better mood, but in case you did wake up on the wrong side of the bed, I'll give you a few reasons about why I'm happy today:
1. The sun is shining.
2. It's Friday.
3. Our wedding shower is in one week.
3. Today is THREE MONTHS until our wedding.
4. Dan & I are doing a juice cleanse and it's day two. I'm proud of us for committing to this and supporting each other in making healthier choices. Hopefully this positivity shoos away any impending headache related to the detox process...
5. I'm rockin' out to a new playlist showcasing bands from this year's Lollapalooza.

What are your five reasons?

The 9-5 Patriot

Red, white, and blue are a patriotic combination that can come off as too casual or juvenile for the work day. One way that I ensure this doesn't happen is by adding another neutral into the mix. For this ensemble, I grounded the colors of July 4 with black through a statement necklace, wide belt, and classic pumps.

Pantone on Tone

In revisiting my own archives, I stumbled upon this post where I discussed "tone on tone" via Diane Von Furstenberg's pre-fall 2011 lookbook and introduced the idea of using Pantone color charts to find which colors to wear to achieve the look. Now, almost two years later, I'm inspired all over again! Whether it's shades of pink, purple, red, or blue, it's safe to say that this escalation of color blocking is a sure fire way to ring in spring! Do yourself a favor and pile on pastels, neons, and brights in one color family from your ears to your toes.

Seasonally Affected

Four days of rain.
The past four days have included flat hair, carrying an umbrella and therefore foregoing my travel mug of coffee, traversing puddles in heels, and staying inside the office during lunch. The diagnosis of Seasonal Affective Disorder is certainly real and I am certainly meeting criteria this week.

Prabally Awesome

The launch of Prabal Gurung for Target blew my mind. While I have kept two of my five ordered online pieces (due to fit rather than style), I need more! Such as this, this, this, and this. I wore this adorably feminine and versatile skirt for Valentine's Day where Dan my man took me out for a lovely meal at an enoteca followed up with a stay at what is now my favorite hotel - Hotel Allegro (where these pictures were snapped).
P.S. We decided to stage our "save the dates" here after realizing that the decor would perfectly display our vintage, glam, colorful, and eclectic personalities. Awesome, right?

Spring Uniform

It's hard to believe (given the current weather), but couple weeks ago, it was sunny and 60 degrees. Therefore, I broke out what is sure to be my spring uniform - a jean jacket and some combination of cobalt, red/orange, and mint.

A Statement

On any given day, we send out an impression to passers by through what we wear and how we carry ourselves. A mood and personality is displayed without even using words. So, what statement are you making today?

Cold Shoulder

Well, I did it. I purchased an Equipment blouse and boy, oh boy, was it worth it! After realizing that peach is going to be my go-to neutral for fall (think of it with cognac, plum, mustard, teal, burnt orange, etc.), I had to start the search for a blouse that I could pair with all of those autumnal hues. So, I started scouring my usual suspects of XXI, ASOS, and J.Crew, but when I came up empty, I remembered this post by one of my favorite bloggers. And there it was, on shopbop.com, and the best part? It was on sale! The shopping gods smiled down on me and when that happens, you take advantage, my friends. Never turn a cold shoulder to an amazing blouse on sale, especially when it feels so exquisite on your skin. Literally, like butter
