Pregnant in Pink

Sixteen weeks and all is well - strong heartbeat and on target growth, of baby and me. I realize that the title of this post might have made you think we are having a girl, but alas, we have to wait another month to find out - June 24 to be exact. Regardless of the gender, we've decided on a color scheme for the nursery of gray and primary colors (red, blue, green and yellow) with accents of mint. Check out my growing inspiration board here. Overalls

I've been wanting overalls forever, but never really took the time to search for them to try on in person. They became my Great White Buffalo, so to speak. I pained to own them, but thought that with a growing stomach, I was forced to only observe them on others. Then, on Mother's Day, my mom and I were shopping and there they were, in my size, reasonably priced, boyfriend fit, and with button sides to accommodate my middle for at least the rest of the spring & summer.

How I Wear...Silk Square Scarves

:: Draped ::

It might not offer any warmth, but it adds texture and print easily throughout all seasons and is my favorite way to rock this accessory. To achieve this look, fold two of the corners to meet each other, which creates a triangle. Next, place the scarf around your neck, with the wide triangle point over your chest pointing down. Finally, adjust the length as you see fit and knot it at the ends on the back of your neck.

:: On a Purse ::

For when a structured bag needs some femininity, fold the scarf in half diagonally to create a large triangle. Then, starting at the widest part of the triangle, fold or roll inwards in two inch sections until you reach the end. Then knot it or create a bow at the base of your purse handle.

:: As a Shirt ::

With a print and texture this appealing, sometimes you want to show it all off rather just half. To do this, hold your scarf in front of you, take the top two corners, and knot it at the back of your neck. Then cinch a belt around your waist. Unless you can rock the backless look, place this "shirt" over a long sleeve tee or under a jacket.

:: The Modern Ascot ::

To achieve a preppy add on that Ralph Lauren would be proud of, fold two of the corners to meet each other, creating a triangle. Put the scarf around your neck, with the wide triangle point over your shoulder. Knot it at the ends on the side of your neck. The off center placement is key to this look.

:: As a Headband ::

You can make a bad hair day tres chic without using a hat by folding the scarf in half diagonally to create a large triangle. Then, starting at the widest part of the triangle, fold or roll inwards in two inch sections until you reach the end. Finish by knotting it at the base of your neck or at the top of your head for a more retro feel!

:: On your Hips ::

Talk about creating curves and making your waist look tiny! This flattering and unexpected tie on can be achieved by folding two of the corners to meet each other and creating a triangle. Then, place the scarf around your hips, with the wide triangle point over your butt, and knot it at the ends around your waist.

The New Mullet

While I love the concept of high-low fashion, I'm getting a bit tired of using the phrase. The mixing of casual and fancy pieces can be done in numerous ways and I've done my fare share of (trying to) rock this trend. Historically, it's been popular to wear your casual item on the bottom (i.e. jean cut offs or boyfriend jeans) and the fancy, be it sequins, beading, or a statement necklace on top. However, recently, I've been more drawn to having my statement piece on the bottom with jacquard pants, a mini skirt, or metallic pumps and pairing it with an understated striped tee or a jean jacket (see here, here, and here). I consider it an outfit mullet - business on top, party on the bottom.

That Dress for Girl's Night

Let's give it up for that dress!

1. You can wear it on it's own - it's just that cute, interesting, and flattering; 

2. You can wear it with some casual layers - to make it autumn and errand appropriate. 

3. And lastly, you can wear it for a night out with your favorite ladies. 

This is the occasion to mix up patterns & colors and wear your highest heels with that extra accessory, be it a second cuff, silk scarf, or chandelier earrings. If I were a guest attending my own bachelorette party (which is happening in two short weeks), I would wear this exact outfit. However, since I am the VIP, my attire needs to be a bit more dramatic and Carrie-esque, so I'm bringing out the tulle!

Desert Hues

Heat, especially dry, desert heat, is not my favorite. No offense, but I just don't enjoy feeling like I'm in an oven. A vacation to the southwest is not on my top 10 list...and that includes Las Vegas. Since I'm a problem gambling counselor that's not too surprising, right? That doesn't mean; however, that I dislike the colors of the landscape. The burnt orange mountain, mint cacti, bright blue sky, and amber sand hues are some of my favorites and they compliment my skin tone and hair color, so I will continue to wear them throughout the season!
